Keeping it Capsule…

I’m an impulse buyer and I’m also a hoarder. I’m the one who keeps things ‘just in case’. I have drawers, bags and boxes full of clothes that I will never wear again, that are too big or too small and even though a few bits do make their way to the charity shop I find others have an emotional attachment that I just cant break!

I also own lots of duplicates of stuff. My husband is always saying to me “But haven’t you already got a top like that?” or “I’m sure you’ve got those jeans” I of course defend my purchases with “No, the one I have is bluer/shorter/thicker fabric/has less stripes!” or “Are you joking, these are totally different! This one has a deeper V neck/fractionally longer sleeves/smaller pockets!” See I have a ‘uniform’ that I stick to too, so I’m drawn to the same types, style, and shape of clothes so he’s right, I do already own it! Maybe not from the same shop but definitely the same style! So to try and break my habit, I’m going to have a go at being a bit more capsule.

I’m setting myself a goal for the next 2 months [start small]. I’m going to stop impulse buying and only add a few key pieces to my already excessive wardrobe. I’m hoping that raining in my spending will get my overstuffed messy wardrobe into some sort of order and I’ll be able to clear my clutter [and washing basket!] I’m also going to buy things that I know I’m going to get a lot of wear out of! Over the summer I spent a ridiculous amount of money on one-wear purchases, things for holidays that have still got the tags on! So no more. If I cant see me wearing it more than 5 times, its not coming home with me!

So what am I going to need?

I figure a couple of good pieces of knitwear, a few shirts and T’s, jeans, maybe a skirt or two, a dressy top and some boots. These will be added into everything I already own and I’m not going to buy anything else!

What have I bough so far?

Textured V Jumper Topshop £36

I showed this jumper in my first blog about knitwear and it’s a keeper. Good colour, good shape and super cosy! I can see me wearing it a lot over winter and as long as it washes well, shouldn’t need replacing with anything else!

Mama necklace from Mia Lia

I know I will end up wearing this until the stitching gives up! It’ll go with just about everything I already have and for £7 it’s almost already paid for itself!

Leather Mini Skirt ASOS £15.50

IMG_20160913_124351

I picked this skirt up from ASOS a couple of weeks ago. Its real leather and an absolute steal at £15.50 [They keep adding sizes so its good to keep checking] I already own a leather pencil skirt which I love so I know I’ll get the wear out of this one.

Levi 511 jeans [Mens]

If you want a really great boyfriend jean I cant recommend these enough! The denim is so soft and the fit on the bum is just perfect! I’m a size 6-8 and the 28” waist fits me perfectly.

So that’s it for now. I’m on the look out for some boots [And if I have my way it’ll be the Chloe Susanna’s] If not, Office has a pair I’m eyeing up but I’m not ready to commit just yet.

Wish me luck!

  1. Another great read. I’m just the same, guilty of impulse buying (& over spending) I need to be shopping smarter. I have piles of stuff I just don’t wear and so may similar items, I’m going to try & join you over the next 2 months & only buy things i really need and know I will get a ton of wear out of.
Your blog is fab and you’ve inspired me to give it a go (if i can figure out where to start)

    • Thank you Sara! Oh it’ll be great to have some support [I know I’m going to need it!]

  2. I am such an impulse buyer! I have some horrendous clothes because of it!!! I’ve been trying to make better choices and it’s kinda working, I will be watching to see how you get on X

    • Thanks Kim!! Shopped today and came away empty handed, so far so good! 👊🏻xx

  3. Loving your blog so far. I’m the total opposite and talk myself out of buying anything. Mainly if the item is not of decent quality (so in my head I’m telling myself won’t last 5 minutes) or if the trend/fashion is going to stick around a while (don’t want to wastes my money) I’m hoping you are going inspire me start buying!!! 🛍

    • Thank you! I need some tips from you! I am trying to be smarter with my purchases and look more for quality over fast fashion, its hard though! xx

  5. Instagram is terrible for making you run out and buy something, it’s like a more accessible Pinterest!!!! And then I kid myself that an item will look as good on me as someone on IG, and it doesn’t, so I’ve a pile of clothes that just make me sad.. gawd, first world problems hey?! 🙈 Anyhoo, great post!!!!!! Xx
